You Don’t Appreciate Sofas Until They are Gone

There is a pretty long list of things which you don’t really fully appreciate until you don’t have them anymore. If you have ever been without things such as your central heating, your driving licence or your reading glasses then I bet you know exactly what I mean. Now I think I can safely add sofas onto that list.

Like most people, I have always had sofas in my house and never thought much about them. I would sit on them, sprawl on them and basically use them in the way they were intended to be used.

Where Do I Sit?

However, I recently went to stay in a friend’s house for a couple of days and it never occurred to me to ask him whether he had sofas in it. You just kind of assume things like that, don’t you? Anyway, here’s a little question. What would you do if you didn’t have a sofa in your house?

It might not sound like much of a loss but try it out and you will see that it makes a big difference. I found myself shifting from one foot to another, wandering aimlessly around the room and finally settling uncomfortably into what I believe is called the lotus position. I had never realised that life without sofas could be so tough.
